NFL Season Storylines

The NFL season is upon us! Most of you football fans have been waiting for this since February right after the Patriots/Rams Super Bowl finished. This is an extremely fun time of the sports year with the start of college football, the NFL, and the baseball season starting to wind down. I personally love this time of year because there is some sort of sporting event on TV each night. This also means that Fantasy Football season is upon us. Fantasy football is arguably the most entertaining fantasy sport because games do not overlap each day/night like the other sports and because there are not games every single night that require your attention. I just want to wish everyone good luck in their fantasy seasons and hopefully, one of the members of the Corn Fed League can take down Tim and I this season. This means a guest can come on the Podcast to brag about their season and beating the Corn Fed experts. I do not expect this to happen, but hey you never know! :) This year there are so many different storylines across the league. I can't remember the last time there were so many different intriguing storylines going into the season. I am going to touch on some of the biggest storylines I look forward to watching this season.
The one that really piques my interest the most from a fan (homer) perspective is if Aaron Rodgers can (finally) stay healthy again and lead his team into the playoffs. There is no arguing that Rodgers is a top quarterback in the league when healthy but has been unable to stay healthy the past two seasons. Rodgers will turn 36 this season which should be concerning to Green Bay Packers fans considering his injury history. A new coaching staff, along with many slanderous words and criticism coming down on Rodgers this offseason should, hopefully, lead to a rejuvenated Rodgers. The NFC North should be quite the dogfight this season which arguably is home to the best division in football. The Chicago Bears should be just as good, if not better, than last season, the Minnesota Vikings have one of the most talented rosters in the division but inconsistent play led to a disappointing season last season, and the Detriot Lions have an upcoming coach with some intriguing talent on the roster. If the Green Bay Packers want to win this division they need Rodgers to play like he has in the past while he has been healthy. It won't be easy with this division but with an improved defense (and a hopefully healthy Rodgers) look for the Packers to making some noise in the NFC North this season.
The storyline I am most looking forward to this season across the league is the Cleveland Browns. The Browns top to bottom has one of the most talented overall rosters. Odell Beckham JR. paired with many other deadly playmakers could lead to one of the best offenses across the league. Quarterback Baker Mayfield showed last year he has the talent and leadership to lead a team to a deep postseason run and it will be fun to watch his growth this season. The Browns should be in line for their first postseason berth since the 2002 season but it will rely on if Mayfield can continue to make strides in his first full season as the starting quarterback of the team. The defense will have to make plays to make life easier on Mayfield. With that defensive roster, the defense can potentially be better than the offense is. Which is a scary thought considering all of talent and stars on the offensive side of the ball. I actually read an article that was talking about how the offense gets all the hype but the defense is ready to break out and dominate. So do not be surprised when the defense starts making some headlines. Football aside let's not forget the larger than life personalities on this team. This should be just a fun team to watch off the field because of their unique personalities. There are going to be some moments out there that could be head-scratching but will be extremely entertaining and funny. I am hoping for a deep postseason run out of the Browns this season because it should be a lot of fun to watch. First-year head coach Freddie Kitchens is something to watch for this team. Will, he let the pressure affect him or will he shine in his first year as the frontman? I can't wait to see what unfolds in the Dog Pound this season.
With so many unique and fun storylines to watch this season, it could be one of the most memorable seasons in recent memory! Some of the other big storylines include: can Tom Brady continue to fight off Father Time or can Todd Gurley regain his form? This is just to name a few of the biggest storylines to watch and there are many others that stand out. Which storyline are you most looking forward to this season?
