The NBA trade deadline is always a fun aspect in a drama-filled league. The NBA could not script their drama any better and it is by far one of the more fun leagues to pay attention to outside of the actual competing. The 2018-2019 season's trade deadline was much earlier this year compared to the past but that didn't cause any less action this year. There were a variety of deals that will greatly impact the NBA playoff chase, seeding, and championship chase. Particularly the teams in the upper echelon of the Eastern Conference were aggressive and were interested in doing whatever it takes to make this year’s NBA Finals. Of course with Lebron James taking his talents to the Western Conference, the East is wide open this year. Let's get into recapping this year’s notable trades and how it will impact the rest of the season.

On January 31 we had one of the most stunning trades of the deadline. It seemingly all happened really fast when a report came out early January 31 that injured New York Knicks superstar, Kristaps Porzingis, wanted out of New York and was not happy with the direction of the organization. Seemingly, a few hours later Porzingis was dealt to the Dallas Mavericks. The full details of the trade were:
Kristaps Porzingis, Tim Hardaway Jr, Courtney Lee and Trey Burke to the Mavericks for Dennis Smith Jr, Wesley Matthews, DeAndre Jordan, and two future first-round picks.

What a trade for the Dallas Mavericks. Giving up some veteran players with big money contracts, and former lottery pick, Dennis Smith Jr. for a, when healthy, young superstar that is very unique in our NBA game today. Dennis Smith Jr. was deemed no longer a great fit with emerging superstar Luka Doncic and expendable. For the Knicks, this trade can also be beneficial to their future and getting out of a couple bad contracts and getting a really good, and still young player in Smith Jr. They have been linked to a few superstar free agents and the money saved makes them, even more, a player now. However, if they are unable to attract a big name free agent this summer to the Big Apple it could potentially sting even more losing Porzingis. This move will be highlighted big time this summer.  Overall grades: Knicks B and Mavericks A-

On February 4 there was a Cleveland Cavaliers and Portland Trailblazers trade to send Rodney Hood to Portland. The overall details:
Cavs trade Rodney Hood to the Blazers for Nik Stauskas, Wade Baldwin IV and two future second-round picks.

I really like this trade for the Trailblazers giving them a much-needed scorer off the bench and not giving up much to get it. Although, Hood has struggled in his time with the Cavs he has the potential to help the Blazers. The Cavs gave up a player they probably were not going to resign this offseason.  Overall grades: Trailblazers B and Cavs C+

On February 6th we saw one of the biggest trades of the entire 2019 trade deadline. I remember waking up to the news of the first trade and couldn't really believe what I was seeing. The details:
Clippers trade Tobias Harris, Boban Marjanovic and Mike Scott to the Sixers for Landry Shamet, Wilson Chandler, Mike Muscala, a 2020 first-round pick, a 2021 unprotected first-round pick (via Miami) and two second-round picks (via Detroit).

What a get for the Philadelphia 76ers! Tobias Harris has been an absolute stud this year and is ballin'. It will be fun to watch him fit in with Ben Simmons, Joel Embiid, and the rest of the crew. The Clippers must have decided they needed a shakeup, as they have been on a little skid recently and that they must not have been able to resign Harris this offseason with upcoming plans. The Clippers have also been linked to upcoming free agent Kawhi Leonard and it is possible this move has his fingerprints all over it. The Clippers got some solid role-players in this deal that can still help them win now. Overall grade: 76ers A and Clippers B-

On trade deadline day we predictably had a very busy in the NBA with some very good trades. The first trade involved the Milwaukee Bucks and New Orleans Pelicans. The deal was: Pelicans trade Nikola Mirotic to the Bucks for Jason Smith, Stanley Johnson, and multiple second-round picks
I absolutely love this trade for the Bucks’ Mirotic is strictly a rental but couldn't fit in more with how the Bucks play and their current players. He is an elite shooter and will definitely be a huge help come playoff time for the Bucks’ The Pelicans get some solid role players along with Stanley Johnson who I absolutely loved coming out of the University of Arizona. Mirtoic Hopefully, a change of scenery will do him well. Overall grades: Bucks A and Pelicans B-

Our next trade that made headlines was featuring the Toronto Raptors and Memphis Grizzlies. The deal was: Grizzlies trade Marc Gasol to the Raptors for Jonas Valanciunas, Delon Wright, CJ Miles, and a 2024 second-round pick.
Gasol is the most decorated player traded this season. The guy has been nothing but consistent and a great player for his entire career. What a get for the Raptors. Gasol is a very unselfish player that a team can run the offense through. I am personally very interested to see how Gasol fits in with the Raptors. The Raptors have had some breakout, young players on their front line this season and it will be interesting to see what head coach Nick Nurse does with the rotation. The odd man out could be veteran forward Serge Ibaka who could be moved to a reserve role. The Grizzlies got some good players out of the deal which is headlined by center Jonas Valanciunas. The Grizzlies did what they had to do and officially start a rebuild in Memphis and build around emerging rookie Jaren Jackson. Overall grades: Raptors A- and Grizzlies B-

The last trade which could actually be beneficial to both parties is the Orlando Magic and Philadelphia 76ers. The details include Sixers trade Markelle Fultz to the Magic for Jonathon Simmons, a top-20 protected 2019 first-round pick (via Thunder) and a 2019 second-round pick (via Cavs). Fultz has done nothing but been injured, inefficient, and overall just struggled since he was the #1 overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft. Hopefully, a change of scenery will help prevent him from being the biggest bust in NBA history. The Sixers got a solid player that can help their bench now. Overall grades: 76ers: B- and Magic C+

There were other trades that happened throughout the association and those trades are listed below. Like stated earlier the upper echelon of Eastern Conference teams were the most aggressive on the market and it will be fun to see how these players fit in on their new teams. The trade deadline always signifies that the NBA regular season is winding down and the best time of the year is quickly approaching. The NBA playoffs.
